October awareness

Are you confused as I am that October is here! It's beautiful with the leaves turning colours that are hughes only nature can provide. I'm confused because I still feel a twinge of summer around and yet the days are shorter, the air is brisker and the rain. Well... that's all about dancin! The beauty of being a bit confused is being now with the essence of summer present in the beautiful days of October. It's great! Enjoy the day, the air, the ground and take a moment and connect with nature its begging for us to have a look!

Health and Wellness fasting

Preparing for ‘any fast’ is a process. A process is a divine choice that one makes within. Let’s do it from the inside out?

Here are some helpful hints to prepare for the fast of this Year 5772. Like any marathon, (any long and arduous undertaking) there is preparation. I used to wake up on Erev Yom Kippur with the knowledge that the fast was upon me and how I fooled myself in thinking that I could just eat dinner that night and this would sustain me until the next night. I would start out well… I ate dinner, but by the end of evening services I was hungry and cranky. That was ‘my’ then.

This is ‘my’ now! Breathe, Alkaline and exercise the body, mind and soul! start to prepare days before with these easy steps.

Step 1 – Breathe.  Each evening spend a few moments reflecting your day, count your blessings for what that day brought you. Breathe gentle breaths in and exhale with ease. This is a simple way to learn how to connect to your breath for stress release and meditation. Each morning upon waking, take gentle breaths in and release with ease and prepare for your day.  Don’t do mental inventory of what needs to get done, just breathe and prepare. Upon entering each day live with the thought of living you’re potential one day at a time. This is true for everyday not just when there is a special holiday, or event. On Erev Yom Kippur, take a deep breath, exhale with ease and be in the moment for preparation personally and collectively.

Step 2 – Exercise.  If you do already, yeah! If you do not exercise then start! Take a walk each day. A thirty minute walk each day will release stress, tone the body and make you feel great. While you are walking… breathe, take gentle breaths in and exhale with ease. This is preparation for walking mediation and helps prepare for standing prayer and meditation.

Step 3 – Water.  If you already drink water, yeah! If you do not drink water, start! Water cleanses us and keeps us alkaline. Start your day with a glass of water before you eat or drink anything, this will hydrate and alkalize the body. Before you start your Erev Yom Kippur meal have a glass of water to hydrate and alkalize your body.  This will help with sustaining hydration through out your fast. Upon completion of your fast, have a glass of water before you eat.

Step 4 – Nutrition.  If you eat healthy, yeah! But, what is healthy? A healthy diet is filled with grains, vegetables, fruit, legumes, water and peacefulness around each meal. In order to sustain us each day of our lives and of course be ready for ‘any fast’ our bodies must be alkalized. In order to do this, eat as much green food as you can.  Have a salad for lunch and dinner. Munch on celery, spinach, broccoli, and asparagus. Avoid sugar, white flour, corn, potatoes, dairy, and all processed foods. Start this anytime, but if you start this now you will build your immune system up for the fall weather change. If you start this now, it will assist you before ‘the fast’ your body should be feeling lighter and you should have more energy. Erev Yom Kippur’s dinner try to include vegetables, salad, light protein, starches like sweet potato or brown rice. Foods that will keep you alkalized. Eat to sustain!

Step 5 – ‘Feel good’, Breathe all the time; this will prepare you for life’s meditation better known as living. Exercise, eat healthy and drink water. This will prepare your body daily for energy to enjoy all the blessings life has to offer.

Our sparkle

We all have days when it feels as though our sparkle is missing. I have come to grips with this, well for the most part. You see I love my sparkle, when my sparkle and I are teamed up I am in my zone. Letting this go for a moment and being with that we are not always in our zone, and living in the now it sometimes feels that we are sparkless. Here is a great tool of thought our sparkles aren't missing, they are getting recharged to shine bright once we reconnect. Accepting this, for me, made a world of difference, it has been a tool that I use to stay in my now, shiny or not. The depth of this conversation is that we always have our sparkle and sometimes we have to squint a bit to see it and other times we just put on our cool shades ‘cause we are shining bright! Love huge today and make your grade 3 smile shine bright, Rose

Inspire yourself!

Happy thoughts turn sprinkles to sparkles! I have this globe I bought; it's got one of the characters from hoops & yoyo in it. When I shake it the sprinkles fill the whole globe and if fill up with my sparkle. When I bought this globe about a half a year ago I knew it would come in handy. I now use it by my computer and shake it randomly several times a day while writing my new book. It works, it inspires me! Have a peak around your home, office or any of your favourite stores and find a little simple something that will inspire you,

big hugs, Rose
